Brian, you do a great job organizing all of this LOST info.  Thanks man.

My three cents:

1. I believe that the correct answer for what lies in the shadow of the stature question very well could be "FDW".  We could easily see it from the location of the well.

2. Did you notice that thirty something Charles Widmore sports the same curly locks as Desmond? My theory: The FDW will turn again, and Lil' Charlie will be on board and end up in the past, only to grow up to be THE Charles Widmore!  Note that Penny is still cast as Penny Widmore, maybe the name sticks?  This would make Desmond Charles's Dad, and Charles the father of his own mother (If Penny is really his).

3. Additionally, when the FDW turns and Lil' Charlie goes to the past, Old Charles goes too, and of course becomes the all knowing Jacob.  The convoluted cycle of this one character through time could account for Widmore's fortune as a middle-aged man AND his ability to know everything as Jacob (he has seen it all you know).

Please comment on these thoughts...

if #2 was true, then Lost could bring out this song.

Mactavish, I can't even BEGIN to wrap my mind around theories #2 and 3!   Grin

I'm a little miffed about the whole "Ben was healed in the Temple and only remembers certain important things like his evil father, but not the 815ers" thing the writers are apparently doing.  But, I'm willing to wait and see if they will still reveal a little more about that whole deal (like what happened, what part(s) of his memory were erased, if any, what he really remembers, etc.).  I know the writers don't have a lot of time left to delve too much into these, but right now it's just a bit cheesy and not very LOST like.

I think you are DEAD ON about Ben being made the "leader" of the Others only so Alpert could get Widmore kicked off the Island and to bide their time until Locke showed up.  Alpert had known since 1955 that Locke was the REAL chosen one and he was trying desperately to get him to the Island, but the time was never quite right.  Ben has been a thorn in the side of Richard and a constant source of trouble, but I don't think it's been because he's BAD, I think he truly DOES believe he should be the chosen one.  I don't think he ever thought Locke would really appear, and when he did, Ben still felt he could find a way to stay in power and PROVE he was the true chosen one.  It's like Ben and Locke have traded places - Ben was confident in his place until Locke came along and made him doubt himself.  Locke was full of self doubt until he got to the Island and then he became confident.

I'm not sure I buy either scenario of Widmore getting Desmond to go back to the Island, but I don't have a good idea in their stead!  All we know is Des ABSOLUTELY HAS TO GO BACK.  And he will.  That's why Ben couldn't kill him.  Just as Mrs. Hawking said, the Island isn't done with him yet.  (Isn't that exactly what Tom said to Michael when he tried to kill himself?)

I still think Ilana and co. are Widmore's moles and that's how he is trying to get back to the Island.  That doesn't mean they aren't from ancient Island 4-toed people though.  Why doesn't someone take off their dang shoes?HuhSmiley   And I still don't get why it was so important to show Sawyer stepping on that stick and hurting his foot a few episodes ago...

All in all, I liked this epi, but I wasn't nearly as blown away as everyone else.  But that's par for the course with me!  I think I'm starting to get a little frustrated with the show and how fractured it feels.  But, I'm hanging in there!

a thought occurred to me last night, what if it is the Jughead that is in the shadow of the statue? This could mean that the whole Ajira 316 was planned by Widmore, in an attempt to use the Oceanic 6, so that his people could piggy back on their success in returning to the Island. Widmore knows where Jughead is on the Island and may have some use for it in re-obtaining the Island.

About the Dharma Barracks....

What if someone in charge (DeGroots, Chang?) had that particular cabin built over "Smokey's doorbell" to keep it away from the Hostiles?
Who lived in it before Ben? The Chang family I bet. Maybe the Sonic Fence was built to keep the Hostiles away from Smokey's doorbell as well.
I think only a select few knew how to summon Smokey. Who showed Ben the way? Huh

Just read an interesting tidbit on another blog...  remember in the scene where Ben calls Widmore from the dock to say he's about to kill Penny?  Ben says in that conversation that he's also going back to the Island later that day, and Widmore says something like "The Island won't let you come back, trust me.  I've spent almost 20 years trying to return."  Miles also mentioned earlier in the season that Widmore had been searching for the Island for 20 years.

The problem is the math doesn't add up - when Widmore was banished from the Island, it was while Ben was pushing Alex in the swing and she looked to be about 5 or 6.  Since we know she was 16 when she died, we know the year when Widmore was banished was about 1993 or 1994.  20 years from that date would be 2013 or 2014... which is impossible (or not).

Any thoughts?

Kat, I think that the time is so relative on Lost, that we just have to trust that it will all work out in the end.  Perhaps time does move at a different pace on the island; remember Faraday's experiments, and the dead doctor appearing on the island before he was thrown overboard.  Perhaps Widmore spent 20 years off island, but really it was only 10 or 12 years in island time (or dog years or something)?

Also, the next episode is called "Some Like it Hoth"??  As in Jack Lemmon & Tony Curtis in Drag on a remote planet in a galaxy far far away, with Marilyn Monroe?

Yeah, you're right!  I didn't think about that.  We still haven't gotten a good explanation of either of those things (time movement or the good dead doc!).  And I'm really interested to see what the "Some Like It Hoth" title is all about!  Obviously a Star Wars reference, but what would that have to do with anything?  Hoth was an icy planet, not a tropical island.  I'm sure it will have something to do with the battle there between the Imperial troops and the "rebels."   Or maybe Hurley and Miles have to dress up as women for some reason... ha ha!

Katie, something I remember when I was reading your first set of comments, Alpert was waiting patiently on the island waiting for John Locke to come, but Widmore was off island have his creepy addabon helping John get to the island as well.  The question is are they working together to get John there or who wants him there more, maybe widemore just wanted an in on getting him there.  Who knows.

Well, and it's interesting - if Abaddon was someone that helped people get where they were going and Widmore was using him, why didn't he just get Widmore back to the Island?  Why was he sure Locke could get back, but he couldn't?

Mildly off-topic

But it looks like no actual Lost next week.  Cable preview says its "Lost: Story of the Oceanic 6"  Some sort of retrospective about the Oceanic 6 in their lives off island...  Doubt it'll have anything new.  But where's my new lost?!

This is correct. I'm heading out West (Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion) for a little vacation next week, so I asked Lost to put on a repeat so that the Blog wouldn't suffer. Surprisingly, they agreed!

This one's my fault guys, sorry.
