Theories are ranging from the twisty...to the absurd (“Jacob doesn’t really exist – Locke is just going to kill the idea of Jacob”).

Oh sorry - was that your theory? My apologies! I could be totally wrong! I just have to write the Blog with an air of confidence to try and trick people into thinking I know what I'm talking about...

Lol, no worries...probably is absurd.
Thanks for the blog, if only I had such a reality check for the other absurd theories I have in life!

I'm having trouble reconciling events from the previous seasons with Season 5’s time traveling.  And as Brian points out in the “Follow the Leader” analysis, the trouble seems to be with Richard’s character.  It would seem that of all the people on Lost, Richard should be hip to the whole time traveling thing thanks to John’s visit in the 1950’s.  It was that visit that set Richard on the path to finding and ultimately interviewing John Locke before John ever stepped foot on the island.  But if I recall correctly, events as early as Season 3 contradict this theory.  Wasn’t it in Season 3 when John was hanging out with The Others that Richard strolled over and introduced himself to Locke for the first time?  And didn’t Richard even say, “Hi.  We haven’t met.  I’m Richard Alpert.”

Sure, the writers could argue that Richard didn’t want to play his hand and reveal to John that he would ultimately travel into the past and meet Richard in the 1950’s.  I guess I’m just struggling to believe that the minds behind Lost really had all this planned out and knew where they were going with the greater story when Season 5 started.  Rather, I believe it went more like this:

J.J. Abrams – “Ok, guys, now that Season 4 is over we need a new twist for the show.  How about time travel?”
Carlton – “Awesome!”
Damon – “I’ll go warm up the DeLorean.”

But, hey.  They’ve proved me wrong before so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt this season too.  I just hope this time travel stuff wraps up cleanly and doesn’t carry over into Season 6.  My brain can't take it for much longer.

Hey Brian, even though you say things like "I'm probably as clueless about where Lost is going right now as I’ve ever been"--your analysis is still illuminating--you have a way of carefully working though things that happened and things that were said and pointing out what they mean.  And you offer interesting theories, so we know what to watch for next time.  Thus, things seem more organized and we still end up feeling like we now know more about what's going on--or at least, I do. Thanks again.

On Radzinsky--if Sawyer was honest, our favorite obsessed paranoid is now armed with a map of how to find the Hostiles--will he be taking a war party?  Picky point--why did they march Sayid off to the guy in the teepee who can get the truth out of anyone, but Radzinsky just started hitting Sayid?

One other addition--I think that the Others can move the bomb--because they already moved it--somehow they got it from up in the meadow to down in the tunnels.  Whether this means they can drag it a long ways through the tunnels though, I don't know.  And will Jack really be able to detonate it with the help of Daniel's journal?

If it does go off, it would seem to explain Alpert's "I saw them all die" comment.  If they "die" in 1977 doing something that prevents the Swan from being built or prevents the original incident from occurring, then Faraday's theory may play out--according to which the plane never would have crashed and they'll pop back into existence in 816.

But then where would the show go?  Would the Universe try to course correct?  Possibly.  But not crashing 816 would seem to negate too much other stuff--like the Shadow of the Statue people being over on the little island.

And I'm not sure I buy Faradays theory--if they never crashed, they never would have gone back to change the past, and--oh, my head hurts.  Unless they are somehow NOW correcting something and we're seeing a second iteration.)

For those who've see the Star Trek movie--I think JJ Abrams had Lost on his mind when he made it.  Or vice versa.

I saw Star Trek last night and was thinking the same thing.  Gives me hope that all of the Lost time traveling will come together in the end.

After re-watching season one, I think it is pretty clear that the writers have had the whole core storyline from the begining, and if my memory doesn't play tricks on me, this was the main reason for the writers to demand the producers to set the exact number of seasons. I think that it was somewhere during season 3 we all got to know that it will be a total of 6 seasons, with 16 episodes for S4, S5, S6. (then the strike messed up the number of episodes in S4). Ever since then, the writers have known exactly how long they have to finish everything off.

I'm confident that we will have all the answers, (that the writers wants us to have :-), by the end of S6.

EDIT: I've corrected my season f--k-up.

[/quote]i think that the writers have now gone so far off course with the show that we will never get all the answers we want. if by some chance they do manage to wrap everything up for us then they will have done the best job in storytelling history. im really hoping it all doesnt fall to pieces at the end i.e jack waking up on the plane during some turbulance then the plane landing safely. and as they all get off the plane all characters just nod at each other knowingly.
Then again i dont think the writers would insult the massive fanbase by using the old ''it was all a dream or was it ?'' type of getout storyline. lets see what wednesday brings im sure they wont dissapoint us, its going to be fantastic, cant wait

Yep. There are 19 hours of Lost left.

2 this season, 17 next season (Season Six), and then we all start to dedicate the time and energy we spent thinking about Lost to making the world a better place... which means Earth should be cured of cancer, hunger, poverty, and hatred by the year 2011.

If this happens, there will be riots and civil disobedience on a massive scale.

Sorry... my bad... I meant S4-6 in my reply... If you read S7 Think S6 :-) Just subtract one season from my whole text, (except for the reference to season one :-)
sorry for confusing everyone...
